there is a stain
on the conscience
of my country,
and it is
breaking so many
lives into shards
of tragedy

there are millions
of us without...
jobs and savings
(and without...
enough food
to have hope,
while too many
don't care

there are politicians
who vote against
anything for neighbors
(and vote against
everyone and everything
that is not
just like them

prejudiced ignorance
has overtaken - shredded
the fabric of our
democracy...
while unbridled greed
has disingenously spawned
born again social darwinism

(and once again
our collective conscience
is silent...
